tattoo aftercare
Jolf - tattoo forum (Wednesday, September 3, 2008)
After approximately one hour remove the dressing and wash in warm water and soap, preferably antibacterial
and pat dry apply a thin smear of Bepanthen cream, if you are allergic to lanolin use savlon instead.
Do this twice daily, although if the tattoo is becoming too dry it will feel like the skin is tight another application of cream will help stop this.
keep this routine up for ten to fourteen days by which time the tattoo should be healed, although if it is in a place that is moving all the time ie. near a joint it may take longer to heal
Having a bath or shower will be fine as long as you don't soak do what you gotta do and out.
Don't go swimming either in the pool or the sea until it has fully healed
DO NOT ITCH, PICK, DIG OR SCRATCH IT
Once it has healed if you go out in the sun apply a high factor UV block to help stop the colours from fading
There are other ways of doing it and I'll post them later
Another method is to do as little as possible to the tattoo just wash and apply cream whenever it feels a bit dry
and let nature take its course, after all a tattoo is a prolonged graze and most will heal fine if left pretty much to their own devices

aftercare
Alex - Los Angeles (Friday, October 20, 2006)
I wanted to recommend a product I developed for tattoo aftercare - Intensive Repair Therapy. It is an ointment containing aloe, arnica, calendula, papaya extract and other herbal ingredients that promote healing. It is inexpensive.

water and new tattoo
Ivan - Pensacola, FL (Friday, August 11, 2006)
People usually have the misconception that absolutely No water should be in contact with a new tattoo. This is not true. The best thing you can do for healing a tat besides ointment or Lubriderm is cleaning your tattoo twice a day, using lukewarm water & antibacterical soap, then use a papertowel and gently tap on your tattoo to remove excess water. I have had tens of tattoos over the years and this is what works the best as far as I am concerned.

Sun Exposure
Amanda - Salt Lake City (Saturday, July 29, 2006)
This was very helpful because I didn't know that exposure to the sun could make your tattoo seem less desirable. Thanks!
